Vehicle floors use a hard-wearing synthetic carpet made to resist abrasion, hide dirt and hold its colour in sunlight. It is chosen for durability rather than softness, and it also helps deaden road noise. Kehls carries a Smooth finish for a clean, uniform look across floors, boot linings and interior trims, and a Ribbed finish that grips better and conceals dirt in high-traffic vehicles.
Yes, and plenty of owners do. The usual method is to lift the old carpet out whole, flatten it and use it as a template, then cut the new piece slightly oversized and trim to fit once it is in the car. Work in sections around the transmission tunnel and seat mounts. Buying carpet by the metre rather than as a moulded kit is what makes this possible on older vehicles.
Carpet is usually grouped by how the pile is constructed: cut pile, loop pile, cut and loop, and needlefelt. Automotive carpet is mostly cut pile or needlefelt, because both take the punishment of shoes, grit and moisture without matting flat. The ribbed automotive carpet at Kehls is a textured variation on this, made to disguise dirt in taxis, fleet vehicles and anything carrying passengers all day.
A high-temperature contact adhesive is the standard choice, because a car interior gets far hotter than a room and ordinary glue lets go. Spray both the carpet backing and the floor, leave it tacky, then press the carpet down working outwards from the centre to push the air out. Kehls stocks trim adhesives alongside the carpet, so the glue and the material come from one place.
